High Temperature SunTrap
The Norwich Technology high temperature Suntrap is ideally suited for combination with a heat pipe system as both are enabling technologies for higher temperatures. In terms of thermal losses by the Stefan-Boltzmann law, radiative losses have a component that scales as T4. These losses cause traditional receivers to be uneconomical above 550°C and unlikely able to operate above 650°C.
The heat pipe technology is employed to transfer energy at temperatures up to 750°C, with an impressive efficiency from the solar field to the Thermal Energy Storage system (TES). The output of the system can have many applications in industrial heat processes with high temperature requirements.
